Kiwat Kennell’s gift for musicality is a conduit for his own existence.
A proud Eastern Torres Strait man from the islands of Ugar and Erub, Kiwat has shared the stage with artists such as Uncle Archie Roach, Dan Sultan, Baker Boy, Alice Skye and Kee’ahn.
Breaking into the scene with his award-winning band Key Hoo, Kiwat’s genre-blending music focuses on evoking a connection-to-self to break down barriers within people, offering the listener both broken-hearted yearnings and triumphant awakenings that permeate his songwriting. Bridging the gap between two worlds, by working the line, he continues on the path to self-actualisation by remaining connected to himself and his culture.
Lauren Sheree is a 24-year-old musician who has been based on Wurundjeri land since 2016. Lauren is a cross-disciplinary artist who uses creativity, songwriting and the ukulele to create contemporary soul/folk music exploring catharsis and healing through song.
Warren Mason is a proud generation Yuwaalaraay man with links to the Yorta Yorta. Warren is based in Tasmania and travels all around Australia with his project and concept Tin Camp Studios.
The Tin Camp Studios provide creative, cultural and storytelling spaces where community members from all backgrounds can connect and heal together. Created by proud Yuwaalaraay/Yorta Yorta man Warren Mason, the permanent and pop-up recording and performance studios host performances of self-expression, including music, film and spoken word.
Each permanent and pop up studio is made from sustainable materials in the style of Aboriginal housing seen on the outskirts of Australian townships in the 1950s.
Tin Camp Studios are a tool to share his story and to welcome others to become part of it. Warren is on a journey of learning through art and music practices and invites others to join him in his healing. This performance at the Brunswick Ballroom will see Warren out of the Tim Camp Studio and on to the Brunswick Ballroom stage.
